Sioux City Truck & Trailer is looking to hire a Service Writer – Diesel Shop

Position Summary:
The Service Writer is the front line of our diesel service operation, responsible for coordinating repairs for heavy-duty trucks and equipment. This role bridges communication between drivers, fleet managers, and diesel technicians to ensure efficient, accurate, and timely service.

Key Responsibilities:

• Greet drivers and customers; gather detailed information on truck or equipment issues
• Open and manage repair orders for diesel trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment
• Communicate clearly with diesel technicians regarding diagnostics and repairs
• Prepare accurate estimates for labor, parts, and repair timelines
• Keep customers and/or fleet managers updated throughout the repair process
• Recommend preventative maintenance and additional repairs when needed
• Coordinate parts ordering and availability
• Process invoices and close out work orders
• Maintain organized service records and compliance documentation

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Working knowledge of diesel engines, trucks, and/or heavy equipment
• Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced shop environment
• Basic computer skills (service software, parts systems, etc.)
• Attention to detail and problem-solving mindset

Preferred Experience:

• Experience in a diesel shop, trucking company, or fleet maintenance environment
• Familiarity with Class 6–8 trucks, trailers, and DOT requirements
• Background in service advising, dispatching, or parts coordination

Work Environment:

• Busy diesel repair shop with frequent driver interaction
• Fast-paced, team-driven atmosphere
• Mix of office duties and shop coordination
